| | The Greatness of Kelly Clarkson | | How can I not find her great? She is so humble and so talented. She can belt out a sassy croon, a bone chilling ballad and a sultry rock song. She has proven her status in the music industry by nabbing not one but two coveted grammy awards along with a dozen other awards. Her second album Breakaway has enjoyed sales of nearly elven million worldwide and spawned 5 number one hits respectively. She has graced magazine covers, played sold out tours, mingled with power houses Reba and tony Bennett. She even has the hollywood bad side to her. She has been caught drinking chivas with metal headers and toilet papering Amy Lee's house. How can you not believe that Kelly Clarkson has a greatness about her. | |
| | Songs About Cities - Which is Your Favorite and Why? | | There are so many songs that have been written about cities that it is very difficult to choose one in particular. But if I were really pushed into naming just one I would have to choose:Streets of Philadelphia by Bruce SpringsteenIt is a haunting song written for the movie Philadelphia for which Springsteen won an Academy Award for the Best Song. I am not a fan of his but he has a few songs that I like very much. His lyrics are precious to say the least, although I was only in Philadelphia on my high school trip in 1954 I am sure that maybe if doubleB66 comes in he will give us a literary dissertation on the lyrics. At least I hope so....who knows it may be his favorite too. | |

| | Scorsese's guild win raises Oscar chances | | LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Martin Scorsese won the top honor Saturday from the Directors Guild of America for his mob saga "The Departed," moving him a step closer to finally receiving Hollywood's biggest filmmaking prize at the Academy Awards.
Scorsese was chosen as filmmaker of the year by his peers, his first win at the guild awards after six previous nominations. The guild winner usually goes on to win the best-director Oscar.
The self-deprecating Scorsese said he was pleased at the apparent success of the film but that he only became convinced it was doing well when the studio called with box-office revenues from the first couple of weekends."If you look at the graph at the spikes at where the picture is doing really great figures, it's like looking at a veritable map of the American underworld," such as Boca Raton, Florida, Scorsese said. "Vegas -- forget about it, it was amazing."Adapted from the Hong Kong crime thriller "Infernal Affairs," "The Departed" stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a cop who's undercover in a Boston crime outfit, Matt Damon as a mob mole who has infiltrated the police, and Jack Nicholson as the merciless gang leader pulling everyone's strings.

| | Still a few left to say, 'I do' | | The Rev. Frank Smith looks like the Maytag repairman as he waits for the phone to ring in the Little Wedding Chapel in Elkton. The antiquated chapel is empty, a loud kind of empty. Yesterday, oh, what I'd give for yesterday, fills the chapel as a guy sings Tony bennett's "When Joanna Loved Me" on the boom box in the six-pew chapel. Newspaper articles in the foyer still boast that Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Billie Holiday were married quick and easy in Elkton a long time ago. After the turn of the 20th century, the chapel was one of several that made Elkton the "Marriage Capital of the World." In the 1960s, roughly 2,000 couples were still getting married at the chapel every year, but the number has since steadily declined. These days, maybe 170 ceremonies are performed in the town's remaining chapel. | |

"Vegas -- forget about it, it was amazing."Adapted from the Hong Kong crime thriller "Infernal Affairs," "The Departed" stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a cop who's undercover in a Boston crime outfit, Matt Damon as a mob mole who has infiltrated the police, and Jack Nicholson as the merciless gang leader pulling everyone's strings.

| | classic songs | | i was born in 70's so i was aware the type of music about late 70's til late 90's. everytime my pop would play the old songs i usually got out of the room. old songs annoyed me when i was in high school. i couldn't appreciate them. but when i reached my college, i learned to appreciate the classic songs. it started when i watched on the big screen the movie SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE. the background music was AS TIME GOES BY. i love the melody & the lyrics. so now i enjoy the platters, vic damone, tony bennett & nat king cole's golden songs. in fact, my partner has some collections of it. i can proudly say i was also influenced by my pop & current special someone in listening & appreciating the classic songs. they too love classic songs. | |
| | WTF? Sanjaya's still on American Idol? | | The Freak (and I thought he was on the Philadelphia Eagles!) is still on...this (as well as last season's win by Karaoke King Taylor Hicks) just goes to show that American does NOT know good music. Hopefully singing with Tony Bennett next week will finally get rid of the guy! | |
