| Are 12 Year Olds Mature Enough To Hunt? | | I just got done reading and responding to a discussion about a 12 year old boy who was tragically killed in a hunting accident; apparently his gun accidentally went off and shot him in The chest. My 12 year old grandson, Todd, went deer hunting for the first time this week and I was a nervous wreck BEFORE reading about this tragedy. I've always had misgivings about kids that young being allowed to hunt but I got out-voted by the men in my family who are all avid hunters. I know there are likely plenty of sportsmen (and women) here on myLot so I'd really like your opinion. Does it really make sense that you have to be at least 16 to drive a car in most states - it soon will be 18 in Pennsylvania - 18 or 21 to smoke cigarettes, 18 to join the military and 21 to drink an alcoholic beverage but only 12 to handle and shoot a gun? To take it a step further, are 12 year olds equipped to understand the whole concept of killing and death or could it desensitize them to the value of life? | |

| | Arrrggg, and we finished off the adventure with a treasue hunt this morning..:) | | My son went to his first birthday party last night, but not before a surprise for him and his sister. My husband picked up their older brother they have not seen in months. So my husband pulls up in the driveway,(because he messed up again and was like 45 minutes late, my son and daughter had to quickly leave the house and just jump into the van),and when I opened the door, my son was there first and just jumped into his brothers lap. Then when my daughter came out, she went right over both boys to give her brother a hug.. They were really surprised..:)It was interesting, on the way to the party, listening to all the kids talking. A 21,18 and 5 y/o, what would they all have in common? Zelda.. Yep, the 21 y/o turned my 18 y/o into a Zelda fanatic and so she in turn, turned the 5 y/o into one also. Big age difference, but Zelda brought them together, funny..:)Then we dropped off my son at the party and we went to Bruno's. Bruno's is a great pizza place in this college town and we haven't been there for a long time, but my oldest son has not been there in many years, so it was a treat for all.
