| Tips - How to protect your silk tie. | | Most good quality of ties are made from silk, fabric that's fragile, its best you protect it from food & drink stains. Don't run to the washroom to dab the stain with water, it will only make matter worst even stain removers ruin silk hence the best way is to take your tie to a good laundry and get it dry cleaned. There are chances that dry cleaning will rob the silk of its shine but its worth a try. Hope this tip is beneficial to you. | |

| | My niece and her "blankie" | | My brother and sister in law have a daughter who is 3.5. Her name is Allison. Allison, since the day she was born, has slept with a little piece of silk fabric with quilting all over it we called her blankie. Another habit she has is when she sleeps, she puts her first 3 fingers in her mouth. Instead of sucking her thumb, she sucks those fingers. My brother and sister in law plus Allison came over to visit the other day and when I put my 2 year old down for a nap, they put Allison down, minus the blankie. Allison screamed for her blankie for a solid 2 hours. I just was wide eyed. I asked my brother what's going on and where is Allison's blankie?Allison's mother, my sister in law, read that if a child sucks their thumb past the age of 4, they'll have gum/teeth problems. My niece is not even 4 yet and they took away her comfort blankie. I was furious. My 9 year old son has a stuffed rabbit he sleeps with. My 5 year old has a stuffed bear and my 2 year old has her 'geegee' or her blanket and a stuffed cat. My 2 year old does the same thing, except she sucks just her two first fingers. I let my 5 year old take her toy to kindergarten for nap time. The teacher actually... | |
| | Looking Forward To School Prom | | My eldest Granddaughter is leaving school this year, in July, and so has quite excitedly, started planning for her School Prom. The prom can be one of the most important events of one's school experience - a special night to look forward to and fantasise about for months beforehand. So, with all this in mind, she decided she wanted to get her Prom Dress and Shoes early, so nagged my Daughter-In-Law into going to the shops with her. In fact, her mum quite enjoyed the experience and Sarah chose a short skirted dress which she can wear after. Sensible girl, considering the cost! She got the dress and shoes safely home and was itching for me to see them, so, I had to inspect her chosen attire. lol. Her Mum was as eager for me to see it as Sarah was!:)Anyway, she didn't put it on... I suppose something to do with bad luck, like the wedding dress suspicion. But she brought it down, covered and took the covering bag off in front of me... slowly. lol. It was a short dress, with straps and quite low cut, to about bra level, with a short, slightly gathered skirt. The material underneath was like a cream silk, and this had a mid-grey coloured chiffon layer over top of it. It's a... | |
| | Bamboo fabric, silk, fabric content - what's the best for shirts? | | I used to be a seamstress - back in the olden days of the 70's nad 80's but not much these days, Back then I knew all the fabrics nad what was washable and what required dry cleaning etc.Today, is another story. My husband just called me and is looking for shirts that are nice looking but cool as he lives in Las Vegas and has to look nice for his "in-office" days when he isn't out on the construction site. (He's doing hte plumbing work for a new spa/casino/hotel called Cosmopoletian (might be misspelled) HE needs something cool, but office appropriate for this international company. He was looking at 100% silk shirts, but one said washable, one said dry clean only - What's the deal? I figure it is dependant on the quality of silk, but what is ya'll's best call for a shirt in silk for the reason he is wearing it? Also, has anyone heard of "bamboo" or "mogul" as a fabric content? (I might not have the mogul spelled right), but he said one shirt had 45% bamboo in it and the other was 100% mogul. Ever heard of these fabric contents or know anything about them? We are trying to keep costs down and prefer not to have to dry clean,... | |
