Everytime I sew I have trouble with the bobbin. It seems to spin up and the thread gets all knotted up. Is there something I am doing wrong??

It is a Signature sewing machine. The serial # is 64623. Model # UHT J285E and also the article number is 82-285E. I need to know the year and how much it is worth if anybody can help me out. Thanks.
