Taming a Warmblood/Fullblood cross
Im from South Africa. I bought a year old filly from an old man for R220(about $30).Its basically for free. The horse was in the way of his Arabian Horses. The problem here is I know nothing about horses except how to ride and feed them. This horse is wild out of the bush and have kicked my wife when she was feeding it. Can someone maybe give me a few pointers on how to approach the horse and how to make it used to us. Thanx
How do you deal with a pushy horse
If you had a horse that was a little too pushy, how would you deal with it. I am in the process of teaching my big guy manners but we seem to fight every night, I always win of course but I am so tired of the same old fight. he pushes I push back, he pinns his ears. I have never hit him and I don't intend to either. Can a horse just be crusty all the time?
My son fell off his horse and now he is scared to ride. He wants to know how to get over this.
My son fell off his horse this past summer. She started running when he wasn't expecting it and his feet came out of the stirrups. He flew off the back off the horse and landed on the ground, fortunately not getting very much more than a bruise on his side. He has told me he has been on the horse a couple times since, but of course the horse senses that he is nervous so he can't do much with her. He told me wants to get over being afraid but he is not sure how to do that. He is almost 15 and just started riding this past summer. He loves the horses and they know it, they are very affectionate with him. The horse he is riding is less than 2 yrs old and I am not sure she has been broken or trained much, other than what my son worked with her. He did go very slowly gaining her trust and teaching her to wear her equipment. He had been on her before the fall with no incident. Does anyone have any suggestions how he can become less nervous? He is generally not afraid of much. He has always been one of those kids who push the limits and is very daring.

Natural Horsemanship vs Traditional Training
Calling all Horse lovers! What are your opinions on the benefits of Natural Horsemanship= Pat Parelli, Chris Cox, Clinton Anderson, vs Traditional Training practices= Lunging, draw reain, tie downs etc? We have two horses a comming 5 year old Paso Fino Mare named Doll and a comming 3 year old Paint gelding named Hoss. I have trained Doll using the Natural methods of Pat and Linda Parelli and then sent her to a traditional trainer with mixed results. The new Paint; Hoss is being started Naturally with some Parelli but we are not sure if we will stick with Parelli. Any Suggestions or comments on colt starting or horse training? All opinions on this subject are welcome.
Horse training principles
Lately I've been observing the horse industry and there is a huge lack of knowledge in how to deal with horses. There is often no 'give' for a positive response, and even more often a give for a negative response, which reinforces habits. Then, when the horse does not do what it is meant to, the owner/handler says the horse is stupid! Horses must get very confused! I have also recently discovered the english method of holding a horse 'by the beard' and trying to push it forward, whilst encouraging movement from behind creates ignorant horses, along with webbing halters and cotton lead ropes. I switched to using a parelli style lead rope and a rope halter, and walked in front of my horse. Everytime she refused to go forward, I kept a constant pressure on her head, until she gave the slightest move forward. At this point I dropped the leadrope for 15 secs, and then started again if she did not move. I swear it has solved all her leading issues! Has anyone else used a similar 'give and take' technique with success?

I was wondering what other people views were on using a twitch as a means of restraining a horse. what r u think about this
Have you ever been around a blind horse?
I have a blind percheron mare. We've learned alot together over the 5 years I've had her, but I'm always open to new ideas.Have any of you ever dealt with a blind horse? Do you have any suggestions on how to teach them, when they can't see you?
should i geld or not? starting my 3 year old colt
I have a beautiful blue roan stud colt. He is half Quarter Horse and Half Thoroughbred and three years old. I have been working on ground manners for a year and am just now starting him under saddle. He comes from no fancy bloodlines but yet is so beautiful I wanted to let him keep his 'virtue'. My problem is he is so high spirited and of course the spring season is only making him more spirited. Should I have him gelded?? I am most sure that all responses will be a yes, have him gelded. My discussion is really about how hard a decision like this can really be. Also, what would be the easiest way to break him if I don't get him gelded?
Horse Training
Anyone have any tips or tricks to use that make training a green horse easier???? I could really use your advice as a friend is trying to break her young horse and she is having a heck of a time.
