What kind of GPS do you use to Geocache?
I heard about geocaching around the time it came out, but figured I could never do it because at the time GPS was a new technology being sold the the masses and very expensive. Being many years later, GPS is a common commodity and Google with their terrain view, finding caches is now for everyone! I recently acquired a family member's old hiking GPS, the Magellan SporTrak Pro. I haven't kicked the habit of using Google Maps yet, but I'm hoping to get out and test the Magellan later this week. However, since it's old, I'm thinking about acquiring another GPS. What GPS device do you use? Please provide the company and model (if you know it). Thanks for your help!
Do any of you go Geocaching? Do you know what it is?
This sounds like a very interesting hobby to me, but i dont have a car so it would be very time consuming and stressfull to take two small kids around.. but when they are older and we have a car, i'm thinking it will be a very fun family hobby..For those who dont know what it is, its sort of like a world wide treasure hunt. People hide a canister someplace, where ever they want, they record the gps co-ordinates and mark it on the webpage.. then when its approved other people can look for it. From my understanding, there is always a paper in the canister for marking the date and names when you find it. . There can be other things inside of it as well, but if you take something you have to leave something of equal value. Then you go to the website when you've found one and record it in the log.. And other people can see when it was found last, and how many you've found if they like i presume! I am not sure why it took me so long to hear about it, but its been going on for many years now.. and apparently gainging popularity!Does this sound like something you would be interested in? If you do Geocach, How many have you found so far?You can check out the website...
Geocaching - Treasure Hunting For the Modern World
So, I'm shocked. There's not a single topic about geocaching on myLot. Thus, I figure it's time to educate some folks.:)Geocaching is this really fun game you play using a handheld GPS navigator and a website (http://geocaching.com). Using the website, you can find the GPS coordinates to hundreds of thousands of "caches," small containers hidden throughout the world. Punch the coordinates into your GPS, follow it to the destination, then search around until you find the cache. Sign the log and become part of one of today's fastest growing sports.Caches are everywhere! In local parks, hidden near lakes and hiking trails, behind Wal-marts and CVS pharmacies, even inside malls and libraries. Most of them are hidden so well, you'll never even know they were there. Caches range in size from tiny film-cannisters containing a logsheet to large boxes hidden in the woods, full of various small tradable trinkets. Take something, leave something. You never know what you'll find. People have even left things like cash prizes or gift cards in caches. It really is a lot of fun, and very addictive. Not to mention, it's great exercise; while most caches are fairly easy to access, some...

Does anyone know what geocaching is? What does it involve? Is it free?
geocaching in the philippines.. anyone?
i love geocaching.. and i hope to do it when i go on vacation in philippines.. last time i tried to find at least 1 cache but the one i chose has people sleeping on top of the hidden cache.. (better read the comments before planning to geocache..) has anyone done geocaching in the philippines? -tyt523http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx small tradable trinkets. Take something, leave something. You never know what you'll find. People have even left things like cash prizes or gift cards in caches. It really is a lot of fun, and very addictive. Not to mention, it's great exercise; while most caches are fairly easy to access, some require hiking a mile or more through the wilderness. Plus, it can be a lot of fun trying to explain to random passersby why you're wandering around in circles staring at a little plastic thing.:)What about you? Interested? Ever heard of Geocaching, or maybe been 'caching yourself? Have you ever hid a cache or have any fun stories to tell about your caching experiences?
